Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the task by reporting several data points from the charts, such as noting that sodium was highest in dinner at 43% and added sugar peaked in snacks at 42%. However, there are significant issues with data accuracy and misinterpretation. For instance, the text claims that '190% in luch' (likely a typo for 19% at lunch) and ends abruptly with 'dinner shows second high number wasin meal is 2'. The overview provided in the second paragraph is confusing and grammatically fractured. While some main features are selected, the response struggles to consistently report the data accurately and lacks a fully developed, coherent summary of the visual information, placing it firmly in band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The organization of the response is problematic. Although the student attempts to use transition words like 'Firstly', 'Secondely', and 'On the other hand', the logical progression is hindered by severe grammatical breakdown and disjointed sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final sentence is cut off mid-thought ('dinner shows second high number wasin meal is 2'), which disrupts the overall flow. Reference pronouns and cohesive ties are sometimes unclear or mechanical, such as repeating 'meals nutrients' awkwardly. The structure degrades toward the end of the text, resulting in a performance that meets the criteria for band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, relying heavily on words directly lifted from the prompt such as 'percentage', 'sodium', 'saturated fat', 'added sugar', 'breakfast', 'lunch', 'dinner', and 'snacks'. There are numerous spelling and word-choice errors, including 'nurients', 'fresk' (implied fresh), 'suger', 'ans', 'luch', and 'rspectively'. The student attempts less common terms but fails to use them accurately, and typos like '190%' severely affect clarity. The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, matching the descriptor for band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, and sentence structures are frequently faulty. The student attempts complex sentences, but they are marred by major errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition use, such as 'the large proportion of nurients was in dinner as well as the lowest proportion of nutrients were in meal' and 'Sodium were very high'. Punctuation is weak, and several sentences are incomplete or trail off into nonsense, particularly at the end of the response. Frequent errors cause substantial difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning, reflecting the descriptors for band 4.0.
