Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by summarizing the main features of the four pie charts regarding nutrient consumption across different meals. While an overview is attempted in the opening paragraph, it is somewhat confused and grammatically flawed ('nutrients that excessive eating is adverse to health'). Key features are identified, such as dinner containing the highest sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), and snacks containing the highest added sugar (42%). However, the reporting lacks precise detail and contains vague statements like 'gradual amount of percentage'. Data points are generally accurate according to the visual source, but the overall development and integration of data comparisons remain underdeveloped, placing this response firmly in Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body paragraphs for specific nutrients, and a conclusion-like final sentence. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and poor referencing. For instance, the transition 'According to second pie chart' lacks a proper article and precise linking. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, or mechanically applied ('It can be seen', 'Especially'), and paragraphing is somewhat erratic with very short, disjointed sections. While the reader can generally follow which nutrient and meal are being discussed, the overall organizational structure lacks clear flow and progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive ('highest amount', 'considerable', 'nutrients'). There are frequent lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'customary meals of three varieties of nutrients that excessive eating is adverse to health' and 'a considerable number of sodium' (using 'number' instead of 'amount' for an uncountable noun). Less common lexical items are attempted but used incorrectly ('gradual amount of percentage'). Although communication is not entirely blocked, the limited control over word choice and collocation restricts the score to a Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('three types of nutrients namely sodium, saturated fat and added sugar has consumed') and passive voice formation ('A large amount of sodium are contained'). Punctuation and capitalization are occasionally neglected (e.g., lowercase 'a' at the start of a sentence in the second paragraph: 'a considerable number'). These errors frequently cause strain for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher band, reflecting typical Band 5 characteristics.
