Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the visual data by mentioning sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar across the four meal categories (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks). Key features and comparisons are attempted, such as noting that dinner has the highest amount of sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), while snacks dominate added sugar (42%). However, the selection of data is sometimes repetitive, and the overview paragraph in the introduction is overly brief and slightly awkward ('The charts describes the information...'). Additionally, there are minor inaccuracies in data reporting, such as stating lunch contains 18 percent of added sugar when the chart shows 19 percent. Despite these flaws, the main trends are adequately identified, satisfying the descriptors for Band 5.5 to 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is arranged with an introduction, separate body paragraphs for each nutrient, and a concluding sentence, giving it a coherent overall structure. However, paragraphing and logical progression are hindered by mechanical and repetitive phrasing (e.g., 'However, Dinner contains...' repeated multiple times). Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes inaccurate or awkward in placement. Referencing between sentences is occasionally unclear, such as the abrupt transitions within the saturated fat and added sugar paragraphs. Overall, the organizational structure is basic and fits the Band 5.0 descriptor, showing some structural organization but lacking smooth overall progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic statistical information and nutritional terms like 'sodium', 'saturated fat', and 'added sugar'. However, the range is limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on simple phrasing ('contains', 'amount', 'eat'). There are also noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'daily eating snaks' instead of 'snacks eaten daily' or 'daily snacks', and 'day meals'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but word choice errors cause some minor friction for the reader. This performance aligns closely with Band 5.0 descriptors for lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures are often faulty or incomplete (e.g., 'The amount of Saturated fat, which Breakfast contains 16 percent, Sturated fat, Lunch 26 percent...'). There are frequent grammatical errors involving subject-verb agreement, missing prepositions, and punctuation, such as 'The charts describes', comma splices, and run-on phrasing ('In conclusion, these charts shows...'). While the meaning can generally be parsed, these recurring errors cause frequent difficulty and distraction for the reader, placing the grammar score firmly at Band 5.0.
