Student answer (Band 6.0)
The three pie chart illustrate the average proportions of sodium saturated fat and added sugar contain in typical meals consumed in the USA, namely breakfast, lunch, dinner and snaks.
Overall, Dinner counts for the largest proportionof both sodium and saturated fat consumption, While snaks contain by far the highest perceentage of added sugar. In contrast, breakfast contributes the smallest or second smallest proportion for all three netrients. Dinner represents 43% of sodium intake, ,making its largest contributor, followed by lunch at 29%.Breakfast and snaks each count for 14%. A similar pattern can be seen for saturated fat: dinner makes up 37%, while lunch contibutes 26% . Snacks accont for 21%, and breakfast has the lowest percentage,at 16%.
The distributrion of added sgar is noticeably different. Snaks are responsible of 42% of dded sugar consumption, which is the most twice the proportion for dfinner, at 23%. Lunch accounts for 19%, while breakfast has the lowest percentage, at 16%.
In summary, Dinner is the main sorce of sodium and saturated fat, whereas snaks are the predominate source of added sugar. Breakfast consistently has a relatively small share of all three neutrients.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the three pie charts and making relevant comparisons. The overview is clearly stated in the second paragraph, identifying dinner as the primary source of sodium and saturated fat, and snacks as the main source of added sugar. Data points such as 43% for dinner sodium and 42% for snack added sugar are accurately cited from the visual data. Key comparisons are made, such as noting that snacks account for more than twice the proportion of added sugar compared to dinner. Although there are some minor typographical errors in data reporting, the overall response is fully developed and satisfies the requirements for Task Achievement at a Band 7.0 level.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into four distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs detailing the specific charts, and a summary conclusion. There is a clear logical progression throughout the text. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In contrast', and 'A similar pattern can be seen' are used to guide the reader. However, referencing is occasionally faulty, and paragraphing could be tighter, as the discussion of sodium and saturated fat is combined into a single paragraph without a full break. Cohesive devices are generally well managed, placing this text securely at a Band 6.5 to 7.0 level, leaning toward Band 6.0 due to mechanical punctuation and spacing errors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate lexical range for the task, successfully using terms like 'proportion', 'consumption', 'distribution', and 'predominant'. However, there are numerous spelling and typographical errors throughout the response, such as 'snaks' instead of snacks, 'counts' instead of accounts, 'perceentage', 'netrients', 'distributrion', 'sgar', 'dded', 'dfinner', 'sorce', and 'neutrients'. While these errors do not severely impede communication because the intended meaning remains clear, their high frequency prevents the score from reaching a Band 7.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Dinner counts for the largest proportion of both sodium and saturated fat consumption, while snacks contain by far the highest percentage of added sugar.' Control over grammar is generally acceptable, though punctuation errors are frequent, including missing spaces after commas, double commas (', ,making'), and spacing issues between words ('proportionof'). There are also occasional phrasing awkwardnesses, such as 'is the most twice the proportion'. The majority of simple sentences are accurate, allowing meaning to come through clearly despite the surface errors.
