Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting on the three nutrients across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, highlighting that sodium and saturated fat dominate most meals, whereas snacks are highest in added sugar. However, the selection of data contains some minor inaccuracies or awkward phrasing (e.g., misstating the second largest proportion for sodium at lunch). The main features are identified, and comparisons are made between the meals, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure, beginning with an introduction, moving to an overview, and then detailing the specific data in the final paragraph. Paragraphing is used adequately. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkward (e.g., 'In term of added sugar', 'The dinner dominates'), and referencing lacks smooth progression. This corresponds to the Band 6 descriptor where cohesion is sometimes faulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting less common items such as 'proportion', 'dominant', and 'sector'. However, there are frequent word-choice errors, incorrect collocations, and spelling mistakes (e.g., 'desribed', 'sturated', 'propotion', 'staurated', 'acconted'). These errors do not seriously impede communication but highlight limitations in lexical control, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the text is marred by frequent grammatical errors, awkward phrasing, and missing prepositions (e.g., 'meals type like', 'if ate too much it may be unhealthy', 'Snacks contain by people lowest'). While the meaning is generally retrievable, the density of grammatical errors causes friction for the reader and prevents the response from reaching Band 6.0.
