Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the charts, correctly identifying that dinner has the highest percentages of sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), and that snacks lead in added sugar (42%). However, the word count is only 102 words, falling significantly short of the 150-word minimum requirement. This severe under-length prevents full development of the task and results in a negative penalty affecting the Task Achievement score. Furthermore, some data points are slightly imprecise or poorly integrated, such as the comparison of breakfast and snacks for sodium. Overall, the information is partially covered.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay attempts a logical structure with an introductory sentence and some grouping of data into body paragraphs. However, paragraphing is underdeveloped and mechanical, and cohesive devices are frequently misused or missing entirely (e.g., 'To commence,' 'On other hand,' 'whereas breakfast get increased'). Sentences often feel disjointed rather than forming a smooth progression of ideas. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparisons between the different meals and nutrients. Progression is hindered by the abrupt transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and collocations (e.g., 'clear information' instead of 'clear information about', 'type meal contain nutrients', 'dinner was dominate'). The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'hazardous' and 'proportion', but inaccuracies are frequent. Spelling is generally acceptable, but the limited range of vocabulary and awkward lexical combinations restrict the communication of precise data relationships.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The writing contains a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are multiple issues with tense, voice, and prepositions, such as 'Breakfast and Snacks is accounted similiar respectively 14%', 'breakfast get increased', and 'snacks was constituted for one half'. Complex structures are attempted but are frequently faulty. While the meaning can mostly be discerned despite these errors, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies pulls the score down.
