Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The student attempts to cover the main features of the charts, correctly identifying that dinner has the highest percentages of sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), and that snacks lead in added sugar (42%). However, the overview is weak, and the response fails to reach the minimum word count of 150 words, stopping at only 121 words. Because the length requirement is not met, the task is only partially addressed in terms of scope and development. Data points are generally reported accurately, such as breakfast sodium at 14% and saturated fat at 16%, but the overall development is limited by the short length.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The text is organised into distinct paragraphs with an introductory sentence and body paragraphs dedicated to different meals. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'The greatest amount', and 'Moreover' are used to structure the response. However, paragraphing is somewhat basic and the logical progression between ideas lacks polish. Referencing is occasionally awkward, but the overall progression of information remains understandable to the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with appropriate topic-specific terms like 'sodium', 'saturated fat', 'added sugars', and 'percentages'. There are some noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'immersive amount' instead of 'significant proportion' or 'largest share', and spelling errors like 'Th' for 'The' and 'amd' for 'and'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary result in inaccuracies, placing this criterion at a band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as using subordinate clauses with 'however' and 'furthermore'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including punctuation slips and prepositional errors, such as 'in majority of meals' (missing article), 'campare with sugar' (incorrect form), and 'In breakfast' instead of 'At breakfast'. Despite these errors, meaning is generally clear and does not severely impede communication.
