Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the charts well, successfully identifying key trends such as dinner being the highest in sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), while snacks dominate in added sugar (42%). An overview is provided, stating general extremes for meals. However, there are minor issues with data accuracy and interpretation. For example, the student writes that 'lunch contains 29% of sodium and other 45% of saturated fat and added sugar', which is slightly imprecise reading of the chart. Furthermore, the second sentence of the introduction is grammatically incomplete and disjointed. Despite these minor omissions and phrasing errors, the response satisfies the core requirements of Task Achievement and presents a clear summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement and is divided into logical paragraphs with an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for breakfast/lunch/snacks and dinner. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, the transition 'Firstly' in the third paragraph is followed immediately by 'lunch', ignoring breakfast which was just discussed in the same paragraph. Paragraphing is attempted, but grouping breakfast, lunch, and snacks all into the third paragraph results in a slightly disjointed structure. Referencing is mostly clear, but the logical progression between sentences occasionally falters due to abrupt shifts in focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'nutrition', 'dietary intake', 'unhealthy', and 'source'. However, there are several lexical errors and inappropriate word choices. The student writes 'average percentage of three types of nutrition' instead of 'nutrients', uses the misspelled word 'dietery', and creates a double superlative with 'most unhealthiest' instead of 'the unhealthiest'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are generally successful in meaning, but word form and collocation errors prevent the score from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses ('which contains similar amount') and subordinate clauses ('as it has 42% added sugar'). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are sentence fragments ('If consumed in a huge quantity, can be harmful to the health.'), subject-verb agreement errors ('Added sugar are only 23%'), and awkward phrasings. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but structural flaws and recurring errors in basic grammar mean that error-free sentences are in the minority, placing this comfortably at Band 5.5.
