Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons across the three charts. An overview is provided in the second paragraph, correctly identifying that dinner and lunch account for higher proportions of sodium and saturated fat, while breakfast is generally lower and snacks dominate in added sugar. Key data points are accurately cited, such as the highest sodium level occurring at dinner (43%) and the peak sugar level in snacks (42%). The response meets all the core requirements of Task Achievement for an Academic Task 1, positioning it well within the Band 6.5 to 7.0 range for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is arranged logically into four distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs detailing specific nutritional breakdowns. Cohesive devices are used to link ideas, such as 'Overall', 'Followed by', and 'while'. However, some minor mechanical referencing issues and awkward transitions occur, such as 'The presence of sugar is across all the meals are quite different compare to sodium and saturated fats.' Despite these minor flaws, the overall progression is clear, and paragraphing is managed appropriately, supporting a solid Band 6.5 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range suitable for the task, successfully using terms like 'proportion', 'consumption', 'nutrients', and 'excessively'. However, there are some noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as 'high amount' instead of 'high amounts', 'whereas there content' (their content), and 'compare' instead of 'compared'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited precision, which keeps the lexical score at a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including comparative forms and subordinate clauses. However, grammatical errors are frequent enough to detract from fluency. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('whereas there content are', 'The highest consumption... are highest', 'The presence of sugar is across all the meals are...'), missing prepositions, and punctuation errors. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they limit the grammatical accuracy to a Band 6.0.
