Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The student covers the main features of the chart by identifying the highest and lowest nutrient percentages across the four meal types. Key data points are cited, such as dinner being highest for sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), and snacks peaking at 42% for added sugar. However, there are some inaccuracies and vague generalisations in the data reporting. For instance, the text states that sodium and saturated fat are consumed in dinner with a ratio of 37% and 43%, but reverses the figures slightly compared to the chart (where sodium is 43% and saturated fat is 37%). Additionally, lunch percentages are generalised as '19% to 29%', but saturated fat at lunch is actually 26%, sodium is 29%, and added sugar is 19%. While the overview attempts to summarise main trends, the minor errors in data interpretation pull this down to a Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is organised into four paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body details, an overview, and a concluding remark. However, the logical progression is weak. The final paragraph ('These are the comparison...') is redundant and adds little value. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or repetitively (e.g., 'On the other hand', 'by contrast', 'however'), and referencing is occasionally confusing, such as 'the all the minerals used moderately 19% to 29% in lunch, however the show minimum usage...'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks cohesive flow, resulting in a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but heavily repetitive and limited ('proportion', 'ratio', 'minerals', 'nutrient elements', 'consumed'). There are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as referring to sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars as 'minerals' rather than nutrients, and phrasing like 'harmfull for health if they consume in large amount'. Spelling errors also occur, such as 'harmfull', 'whle', 'peaked at snacks is about 42%', 'reapidly', and 'breafast'. Because these errors occasionally impede smooth reading and the range is restricted, this merits a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is quite low throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb forms, voice, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'if they consume in large amount' (passive needed), 'sodium and saturated fat having less consumption', 'the all the minerals used moderately', and 'however the show minimum usage'. Punctuation and article usage are also problematic. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, the grammar performance aligns best with Band 5.0.
