Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover all parts of the task by reporting the percentages of sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars across the four meal categories. The student accurately extracts figures from the charts, noting key details such as dinner having the highest sodium (43%) and saturated fats (37%), and snacks leading in added sugar (42%). However, the overview and summary elements are weak and repetitive. The final paragraph attempts a comparison but contains mechanical summarisation rather than well-synthesised analytical groupings. While the core data is reported correctly, the lack of a fully developed, integrated overview keeps the response at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression and cohesive structure are weak. Each nutrient is listed sentence by sentence in a repetitive, mechanical pattern (e.g., 'breakfast include 14 percent of sodium, lunch include 29 percent...'). Transitional phrases like 'First of all', 'If we talk about', and 'Now the third type' are basic and formulaic. The final concluding paragraph ('In the above mentioned paragraphs explained...') is grammatically broken and fails to successfully tie the data together. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion lacks smooth transitions, resulting in a score of 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive. Words like 'percent', 'sodium', 'saturated fats', and 'added sugar' are repeated constantly throughout the text. There are numerous spelling and word-form errors, such as 'percantage', 'typicall', 'include' instead of 'includes', and 'oercent'. The student attempts some less common phrasing like 'carries a major part', but these are hindered by awkward collocations and lexical inaccuracies. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, which corresponds to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple lists and clauses strung together with commas rather than properly structured complex sentences. There are frequent, persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction, such as 'the chart given below show' (shows), 'breakfast include' (includes), and 'in snack a major part...'. The final sentence is a major grammatical fragment: 'In the above mentioned paragraphs explained the chart...'. Because of the high frequency of basic structural errors and the lack of complex sentence control, this criterion is awarded a Band 4.5.
