Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The candidate manages to cover the main components of the charts, identifying that dinner is the highest for sodium and saturated fat, while snacks dominate in added sugar. However, there are notable descriptive inaccuracies regarding the data. For instance, the text states that 'breakfast and dinner required similar percentages' for sodium, which is incorrect (14% vs 43%). Furthermore, the phrasing 'required' is inaccurate as the charts show consumption percentages, not nutritional requirements. The overview is somewhat weak, and the reporting of figures contains lapses, placing this response in Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, attempting to group information by meals and nutrients. However, the progression between sentences and ideas is frequently disjointed. Transitional phrases like 'In contrast,' and 'Furthermore,' are used, but logical connections are undermined by unclear referencing and abrupt shifts between nutrients. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping lacks a cohesive narrative flow. This level of organisation aligns with Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several lexical errors and inappropriate word choices. Examples include 'proportions' misspelled as 'proportions' (propertions), 'eaten highly' instead of 'consumed in large quantities', and 'suger' instead of 'sugar'. The candidate attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'gradually declining', but errors in word formation ('Consumtion', 'sodim') and collocation restrict the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent subject-verb agreement errors, such as 'sodium are highly used' and 'added sugar are significantly consumed'. Other issues include missing articles and awkward phrasing like 'snacks needs large amount of sugar'. Punctuation is generally basic. These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor.
