Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons across the three charts. The overview successfully highlights that the proportions varied considerably, pointing out that dinner accounted for the largest share in most cases while breakfast represented the smallest. Specific data points are generally accurate, noting that dinner peaked at 43% for sodium and 37% for saturated fat, whereas snacks dominated added sugars at 42%. However, some data reporting in the second paragraph becomes slightly muddled and colloquial ('let's talk about saturated fat rest of different'). Nevertheless, the key comparative features are presented, aligning with the requirements of a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement, starting with an introductory sentence and an adequate overview. However, progression and cohesion are significantly hindered in the body paragraph. The student fails to use standard paragraphing, clumping all detailed body sentences into one dense, unguided block. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with abrupt shifts between ideas, such as 'let's talk about saturated fat rest of different' and 'At last added sugar totally different'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the lack of logical transition markers makes the flow mechanical and confusing. This fits the description for Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting words like 'proportion', 'considerably', 'intermediate', and 'magnitube'. However, there are numerous noticeable spelling errors ('intypical', 'mel', 'intermediteate', 'magnitube', 'soduim') and awkward word choices or incomplete expressions ('largest uses snack', 'kind of say quater'). These lexical errors and typos occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the score from reaching a higher band. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic data, supporting a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The writing exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple and heavily flawed sentences. There are frequent, basic grammatical errors, missing verbs, and run-on structures, such as 'sodium has breakfast and snack similar 14% which lowest' and 'Dinner is largest rest of the two item but in the added sugar quater'. Punctuation is also neglected, with missing capitalisation at the start of sentences and misuse of commas. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and place the performance firmly at Band 4.0.
