Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student successfully covers all parts of the prompt by accurately summarizing the main features of the four pie charts. The overview effectively captures the primary trends, noting that sodium and saturated fat peak at dinner, whereas added sugar is highest in snacks. Specific data points, such as dinner containing 43 percent sodium and 37 percent saturated fat, and snacks containing 42 percent added sugar, are cited correctly and compared appropriately across the meals. The response meets all the core requirements for Task Achievement, offering a clear and well-supported summary of the visual data without significant omissions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. It begins with an appropriate introductory statement and overview, followed by well-structured body paragraphs that deal with specific meals. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'Meanwhile', 'Similarly', and 'In contrast' are used effectively to guide the reader through the comparisons. Paragraphing is logical, with each paragraph focusing on distinct aspects of the data. However, minor mechanical errors in punctuation and sentence separation slightly limit smoother flow, keeping the coherence at a solid Band 7 level.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly and with some precision. Appropriate terms for data reporting and food components are utilized, such as 'percentages', 'proportion', 'sodium', 'saturated fats', and 'added sugar'. There are some successful less common phrases like 'over consumption' and 'second highest proportions'. However, there are a few lexical and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'accountes' instead of 'account' and 'realively' instead of 'relatively', along with minor awkward collocations that prevent the score from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including comparative clauses and introductory prepositional phrases. There are instances of successful complex constructions, such as 'whereas added sugar accountes for the highest percentage in snacks.' However, the text contains noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including verb-form slips ('Dinner conatin' instead of 'contains', 'added sugar record' instead of 'records', 'Sodium constitute') and incorrect punctuation choices (such as ending the first sentence with a comma before a new independent clause). These errors occasionally distract the reader.
