Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to cover all parts of the visual data by discussing sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. An overview is provided, stating that dinner contains the highest percentage of sodium and saturated fats while snacks have the most sugar. However, the response falls slightly short of the 150-word minimum limit, containing only 148 words. Additionally, there are some minor data inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as stating that 'snacks added the largest amount of suger' rather than accounting for the proportion consumed. Despite these minor issues, the key features and main comparisons are adequately highlighted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is structured into four paragraphs, including an introduction and an overview, which helps establish a basic framework. However, the organization suffers significantly from poor punctuation, capitalization, and run-on sentences. For example, sentences are linked together with commas rather than full stops or proper conjunctions, as seen in 'overall,it is evident that ,dinner contain...'. Cohesive devices are minimal and often mechanical or inaccurate (e.g., 'in detail', 'futhermore'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical progression within paragraphs is obscured by the lack of clear sentence boundaries and erratic spacing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally repetitive and basic, with frequent spelling mistakes such as 'quanity', 'suger', and 'futhermore'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to the task, such as 'proportion', 'average', and 'percentage', but these are often used with incorrect collocations or grammar (e.g., 'started fats' instead of 'saturated fats'). While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic statistics from the chart, the recurrent spelling errors and limited range prevent the score from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex clauses that lack proper punctuation and control. There is a complete absence of capital letters at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns (e.g., 'usa'), and commas are consistently misused to splice independent clauses together. Grammatical errors are frequent throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('dinner contain') and incorrect prepositions ('used sodium for lunch'). These persistent structural and punctuation errors frequently strain the reader.
