Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student successfully covers all three nutrients (sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar) across the four meal types presented in the charts. An appropriate overall trend is identified, noting that sodium is highest at dinner and lowest in snacks. Key features and comparisons are selected and reported, such as noting that sodium and saturated fat are highest in dinner at 43% and 37% respectively, and that added sugar peaks in snacks at 42%. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in quoting figures (e.g., stating sodium in breakfast and snacks is 14% which is '15 less than that of lunch', whereas lunch is 29%, making it 15 percentage points lower, but the phrasing is slightly clumsy). Overall, the task is addressed adequately and key features are highlighted, earning a band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is structured into an introduction, an overall statement, and body paragraphs dealing with the nutrients. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate ideas. However, the logical progression is hindered by frequent spelling errors, typos, and awkward linking phrases like 'To commence with', 'Moving futher', and 'In addition to it'. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately. Referencing is mostly clear, but the flow of the text is disrupted by poor punctuation and sentence structure. Overall arrangement is coherent, matching the band 5.0 to 6.0 profile, but due to repetitive and slightly faulty cohesive ties, it fits securely at a band 5.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting words like 'pivotal', 'proportion', and 'percentage'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-form errors throughout the text, such as 'pei charts' instead of 'pie charts', 'calirated' instead of 'calibrated', 'snakes' instead of 'snacks', and 'consume' instead of 'consumed'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary but lacks accuracy in word choice and spelling, which occasionally causes strain for the reader. These persistent lexical errors cap the score at band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses and comparative structures ('the percentage of sodium taken in dinner is maximum while it was minimum...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in verb forms and agreement, such as 'are eating in dinner', 'is consume', 'fraction of saturated fat eat up', and 'added used eat'. Punctuation is also problematic, with incorrect spacing around commas. Because errors are frequent and sometimes impede smooth reading, the grammar score is a band 5.0.
