Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The student attempts to summarise the main features of the chart, noting that dinner is the highest for most nutrients and highlighting specific figures such as the 43% for sodium at dinner and 42% for snacks in added sugar. However, the response falls significantly short of the 150-word minimum, containing only 141 words, which incurs a mandatory penalty in Task Achievement. Furthermore, the overview is rather vague and contains unsupported claims, such as stating that breakfast and lunch 'fluctuated over the period,' even though the charts represent proportional data for typical meals rather than a time series. Key comparisons between the nutrients are underdeveloped.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is organized into paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs detailing the categories. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, sentence fragments, and inappropriate temporal phrasing like 'over the period,' which is incorrect for static chart data. Cohesive devices are misused or applied mechanically, such as 'Initially, In Sodium...' and starting sentences abruptly with conjunctions like 'When' or 'Whereas,' leaving the final sentence incomplete. Paragraphing is present but internal cohesion requires substantial improvement.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitious, relying heavily on simple verbs like 'consumed' and 'increased' alongside numerous spelling and lexical errors (e.g., 'suger' instead of sugar, 'populer' instead of popular, 'compaire' instead of compared, and 'Satutated' instead of saturated). The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but these attempts are marred by inaccurate word choice and faulty collocations. The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, but vocabulary errors cause some distraction and occasionally impede smooth reading.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Many sentences are grammatically incomplete or structurally flawed, such as 'Which may be unhealthy if eaten too much,' which is a sentence fragment modifying the previous clause incorrectly. There are frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and sentence construction (e.g., 'Dinner meals consumed highest,' 'Breakfast and Lunch both fluctuated'). The final sentence of the text trails off incomplete ('Whereas,'). While some simple sentences are understandable, error frequency is high and noticeable throughout.
