Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response only partially addresses the prompt. While it attempts to report data from the charts regarding sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars across different meals, the information presented contains several notable inaccuracies and omissions. For instance, the text claims that breakfast and dinner contain fewer amounts of sodium at 14 percent, completely missing the correct category for snacks which is also 14 percent, and mislabeling dinner when dinner is actually the highest at 43 percent. Furthermore, the overview is limited to a simple copying and slight rewording of the rubric rather than providing a clear summary of the main trends. The response lacks a well-developed comparison across the categories, presenting the data in a somewhat mechanical list-like fashion without fully highlighting the most significant features of the visual data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to group information logically by nutrient type, dedicating separate paragraphs to sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars. Cohesive devices such as 'In terms of', 'Regarding', and 'In addition' are used to structure the text, although referencing is at times mechanical and repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different ideas, but the logical progression within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by abrupt transitions and awkward referencing. While the organization allows the reader to follow the general flow of information, the lack of sophisticated cohesive links and occasional faulty referencing prevent the response from achieving a higher level of cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally impede communication. There are frequent word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'injrius' instead of injurious, 'icluded' instead of included, and the use of 'fewer amount' instead of 'smaller amount'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'ratio' and 'nutrients', but control is weak, resulting in unnatural collocations like 'large amount of sodium is added in meals mostly eaten in dinner'. Repetition of basic structures and vocabulary, such as constantly repeating 'meals eaten in', further restricts the lexical range to a lower band level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside a few attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The diagrams below shows', 'Meals which contains', 'meals eaten in lunch contains'), incorrect prepositions ('in dinner', 'in breakfast'), and missing articles ('taken as snack meals'). Punctuation is also handled poorly, with bracketed percentages used erratically instead of integrated clauses. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of firm control over basic grammatical forms and sentence construction.
