Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by selecting and reporting the main features of the charts and making relevant comparisons. An overview is provided, noting that dinner is the major provider of sodium and saturated fat while snacks lead in added sugar. However, some aspects of the response are more fully developed than others, and certain details are slightly imprecise, such as misstating that breakfast 'consumed 21%' of saturated fat. While the key trends and proportions are generally well covered, the development of ideas lacks the extension and consistency required for a higher band, placing this performance at the midpoint level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression, using paragraphing to separate different nutrients. Information and data are generally grouped effectively by category. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in awkward transitional phrases like 'By the saturated fat' and 'In the terms of', rather than smoother discourse markers. Referencing is mostly clear, but the lack of flexible cohesive devices and some repetitive linking patterns prevent the text from achieving a more fluid organizational flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, with attempts to incorporate less common items such as 'proportion', 'substantial', and 'contributor'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that detract from precision, including 'proportation', 'tupes', 'snaks', and 'food' instead of 'fat'. Collocations are also occasionally strained, such as 'highest leading source'. These lexical inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the score to an adequate level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting comparative and dependent clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly missing prepositions and articles, incorrect verb forms, and subject-verb agreement issues, such as 'dinner accounts the largest share', 'th lunch', 'These indicates', and 'dinner hold'. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, the high frequency of basic structural mistakes means that error-free sentences are not sufficiently dominant to reach a higher band.
