Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response makes an attempt to present information from the charts, noting some key data points such as the high percentage of sodium and saturated fat for dinner, and snacks leading in added sugar. However, the response only partially addresses the task. The overview is fragmented and fails to provide a clear summary of the main trends across all three nutrients, and several comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. For instance, stating that breakfast has saturated fat and sugar at 16 percent simultaneously misrepresents how the data is categorized, and the ideas presented are limited and under-developed throughout the body paragraphs. To move to a higher level, you should ensure all major features are accurately reported and supported by a clear, coherent overview of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organization into paragraphs, and transitional markers are attempted, such as 'Initially' and 'On the others hand'. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the logical flow is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and repetition. Cohesive devices are often inadequate or inaccurate, as seen in the confusing transitions between sentences and the overuse of conversational filler phrases like 'basically' and 'AS'. Furthermore, referencing and paragraphing lack the structure needed to guide the reader smoothly through the comparison of the three charts. To improve, you need to use cohesive devices more accurately and structure your paragraphs so that each focuses on a distinct, logically sequenced comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'thhe', 'avrage', 'snakes', 'suger', 'Inconstrat', and 'typs'. Word choice is often inappropriate or imprecise, leading to expressions that obscure meaning, such as 'most demanding meal' or 'cheap part in suger'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for the task, causing noticeable difficulty for the reader in understanding the intended data points. To achieve a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary, use precise terms related to data reporting (such as 'proportion', 'category', or 'consumption'), and carefully check your spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and direct, faulty assertions. Attempts at complex or compound sentences are frequently flawed, featuring missing verbs, incorrect prepositions, and severe agreement issues, such as 'dinner as the highest percentage' and 'peoples not like outside food'. Grammatical errors and punctuation mistakes are frequent throughout the text, often causing difficulty and confusion for the reader. To improve your grammar score, you should focus on constructing complete sentences with correct subjects and verbs, avoid run-on clauses, and practice using appropriate verb tenses and forms when describing statistical data.
