Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response covers all parts of the task well, providing a clear overview and highlighting the main features of the three pie charts regarding sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar in US meals. Key data points, such as dinner accounting for the highest proportion of sodium (43%) and snacks leading in added sugar (42%), are accurately reported and compared effectively. The response meets the requirements for a solid band, though some minor extensions or deeper synthesis between the charts could push it further towards complete development. The information is fully grounded in the visual data with no significant omissions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

There is a clear logical organisation and progression throughout the response. Each nutrient is given its own well-structured paragraph, making the comparisons easy to follow. The writer uses cohesive devices adequately to guide the reader, such as "Overall," "In terms of," "follows somewhat similar pattern," and "However." Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different categories of information. While cohesion occasionally feels a little formulaic rather than entirely natural and flexible, the overall arrangement is coherent and maintains a clear direction from the introduction to the body paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items and descriptive phrases such as "accounts for higher proportion," "identical share," and "somewhat similar pattern." There are some minor lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices, such as "breakfast have the smallest share" instead of "has," and "comprises of" instead of simply "comprises" or "is comprised of." However, these minor errors do not impede communication, and the vocabulary successfully conveys the statistical information required for an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating adequate control over basic structures. There are several error-free sentences, alongside some grammatical errors. For example, subject-verb agreement issues occur in phrases like "The amount of sodium utilized in breakfast and snacks have" (should be "has") and "breakfast have the smallest share" (should be "has"). Additionally, preposition usage and article choices show minor slips, such as "people of USA" instead of "people in the USA." These errors persist but rarely impede communication, placing the grammatical performance firmly within the expected band.
