Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response attempts to address the prompt by reporting data from the charts regarding sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar consumption across different meal times. However, the coverage remains partial and limited. While some main features are mentioned—such as identifying dinner as having the highest sodium and saturated fat, and snacks leading in added sugar—the details are muddled by inaccurate figures and confusion in the text, such as stating 'the lowest in the in breakfast and lunch of 14% and the second highest is of 29%' for sodium when lunch is actually 29% and breakfast and snacks are both 14%. Furthermore, the introduction includes irrelevant personal commentary about what is healthy or unhealthy rather than sticking strictly to the data provided. The response would be improved by accurately citing figures directly from the charts and ensuring all key comparisons are clearly stated.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response shows some basic organization with an attempt at paragraphing, but it lacks clear overall progression. Ideas are often linked in a mechanical or repetitive way, such as the frequent use of 'and', 'with', and 'whereas' chained into long, confusing run-on sentences. Paragraphing is poorly handled, as the main body text is clumped together with numerous run-on structures that make the logical flow difficult to follow. Referencing is also unclear at times, such as 'the third pie chart' when referring to the data for added sugar. To move up, the writer needs to group related information logically, use clear and varied cohesive devices without overusing them, and separate ideas into distinct, well-structured paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and barely adequate for the task. The student relies on basic terms and repeats words like 'consumption', 'percentage', 'highest', and 'lowest' frequently throughout the text. There are numerous noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'iilustrates' for illustrates, 'unhealty' for unhealthy, 'ed based' instead of based, 'intkae' for intake, 'consumtion' for consumption, 'higiest' for highest, 'yhe' for the, and 'mantian' for maintain. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, learn accurate word forms and spelling, and incorporate less common lexical items related to data reporting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences are attempted, but complex structures are either absent or heavily flawed, resulting in frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader. There are persistent issues with run-on sentences joined by commas instead of proper punctuation, incorrect verb forms like 'divid's', missing articles, and awkward prepositional phrases. For example, sentences like 'the iilustrates the the proportion of 4 nutrients which is unhealty consumed to much by many people at different time' display a complete breakdown of basic sentence architecture. To achieve a higher band, the writer must improve control over basic sentence boundaries, reduce the frequency of grammatical errors, and demonstrate accurate use of simple and complex sentence forms.
