Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the visual data regarding sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars in typical US meals, presenting a partial overview with some key figures such as the 43% of sodium in dinner and 42% of added sugar in snacks. However, the task is only partially addressed because the student misinterprets the categories, frequently referring to 'childreans' or 'adults meals' which are not specified in the charts, and introduces irrelevant comparisons. Furthermore, the selection of data is somewhat haphazard, and the response lacks a clear, fully developed reporting structure, keeping the score at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The organization of information lacks a clear overall progression. While the writer uses basic cohesive devices like 'Overall' and 'Although', their usage is often clumsy or inaccurate, such as starting a sentence with 'however, average percentages...' and using 'also'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal sequencing of ideas is disjointed and hard to follow, with abrupt shifts between topics like sodium, sugar, and demographic assumptions not supported by the prompt. Referencing and logical transitions between sentences are frequently faulty, leading to a breakdown in readability.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and repetitive, featuring basic terms alongside frequent word-choice and word-form errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'childreans', 'diffrent', and awkward phrases like 'continuous eating total 43%' and 'balanc3 dieats'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to the chart, but these attempts are marred by inaccurate collocations and spelling mistakes (e.g., mixing numbers and letters). The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, but lacks the precision required for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex forms that are severely faulty. There are persistent errors in basic grammar, including subject-verb agreement ('The charts illustrates', 'there are sodium is'), incorrect verb tenses and forms ('people eats', 'is adults meals diagram'), and missing articles. Punctuation is also problematic, with sentences starting with lowercase letters following periods or commas misplaced. These frequent errors cause significant difficulty and strain for the reader throughout the text.
