Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by covering the three types of nutrients across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. An overview is attempted, noting that sodium and saturated fat are high in dinner while added sugar is high in snacks. However, some ideas are under-developed or inaccurately reported. For instance, the student states that 'in breakfast and in dinner, it consumed 14%' for sodium, which confuses breakfast and lunch figures, and includes a factual error in the final sentence by claiming 'all the nutrients people less consumed in the dinner time' despite sodium and saturated fat peaking at dinner. To reach a higher level, the response needs more precise data reporting and fully developed comparisons without contradictions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement, utilizing basic paragraphing to separate the introduction, overview, and body details. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'Overall', 'At a glance', and 'In terms of', but some referencing and linking become mechanical or unclear, as seen in awkward transitions like 'At the end, all the nutrients people less consumed'. Paragraphing is present, but internal logical progression within the body paragraphs is disrupted by confusing data placement. To achieve a higher standard, the student should employ clearer referencing and ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally to guide the reader smoothly through the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'dwellers', 'proportions', and 'nutrients'. However, there are noticeable word-choice errors, awkward collocations, and missing word forms, such as 'saturates fats', 'extra sugar meals significantly more consumed', 'snacks time', and 'propertones'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they reflect a limited range and some strain. To progress to a higher band, the student must demonstrate more precise lexical control, accurate word forms, and natural collocations suited to academic reporting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response shows a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple forms alongside faulty attempts at complex structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with passive voice construction ('it consumed 14%', 'it was consumed'), missing prepositions ('in dinner time' instead of 'at dinner time'), and awkward phrasing ('people less consumed'). These frequent errors can cause some difficulty and strain for the reader. To improve, the student needs to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentences, with better control over voice, tense, and prepositions.
