Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie charts below compares the ratio of sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar in meals. All of them may be unpleasant if consumed too much.
Overall, it can be clearly seen that saturated fats and sodium are in high proportion in dinner. Nevertheless, snacks have high concentration of added sugar. Furthermore, saturated fats added sugar have same ratio in dinner.
Firstly, In the breakfast the amount of sodium is 14% compared to saturated fats and added sugar both of them are 16% in the breakfast. Moreover, lunch is having 29% of sodium, 26% of saturated fats are in the lunch, and low amount of added sugar about 19%.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview and reporting the key features and comparisons of the data regarding the three nutrients. The student covers all four meal categories across the charts, noting that dinner is highest in sodium and saturated fats, while snacks dominate in added sugar. However, some aspects of the response are more fully developed than others; for instance, the description of breakfast and lunch leans toward a mechanical listing of figures rather than fully synthesized comparisons. Furthermore, there is a minor contradiction in the overview where the student states that saturated fats and added sugar have the same ratio in dinner, which is factually incorrect based on the visual data (37% versus 23%). Nevertheless, the selection of main features is generally appropriate, meeting the requirements for a solid performance with some minor limitations in data interpretation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure by dividing the body into clear sections for different meals, introduced by sequencing markers such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. Paragraphing is utilized to separate the introduction, overview, and body details. However, cohesion is at times mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on formulaic transitions like 'is having' and 'are in the lunch'. Referencing and linking between sentences can be slightly clumsy, as seen in abrupt shifts from one nutrient to another without smooth cohesive ties. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure that relationships between ideas flow more naturally without repetitive phrase structures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to discuss nutritional data with terms like 'proportion', 'concentration', and 'ratio'. However, there are notable word choice inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as writing 'unpleasant' instead of 'unhealthy' in the introduction, and repeatedly using the unidiomatic verb construction 'is having' instead of 'accounts for' or 'contains'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but lexical control is limited by frequent awkward collocations and a lack of precision. To improve, the student should expand their repertoire of functional reporting verbs and adjectives, moving beyond basic descriptive vocabulary to more sophisticated lexical items related to statistical data representation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating comparative and relative structures throughout the text. There are, however, several grammatical errors and awkward syntactic patterns. For instance, the opening sentence contains a subject-verb agreement error with 'charts below compares', and prepositional phrases are mishandled in expressions like 'in the breakfast' instead of 'at breakfast'. Other mechanical errors include minor punctuation slips and awkward phrasing such as 'there are snacks that having high value'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they occur regularly enough to prevent the writing from achieving a higher level of grammatical control. Focusing on accurate prepositions and correct verb tenses or participle clauses would elevate the grammatical score.
