Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer attempts to present data from the three charts regarding sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars, the reporting of figures is incomplete and contains inaccuracies. For instance, the text states that '14 percent of sodium is taken in form of snacks and breakfast, wherever rest of 29 percent takes in lunch', which misinterprets the individual values for snacks (14%), breakfast (14%), and lunch (29%), while omitting dinner entirely in that specific sentence (which is 43%). Furthermore, the inclusion of personal health commentary ('which is very harmful for our body because it can weak the bone strenthening') shifts the focus away from objective data reporting. To move to a higher band, the student must accurately report all key figures from the visual data without introducing external medical opinions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some organization, but lacks a clear overall progression. The essay is broken down into fragmented, list-like sentences rather than cohesive paragraphs with a logical flow. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, or inaccurate, such as using 'here,3 charts are present', 'first chart showing', 'therefore, second chart shows', and 'third chart shows about'. Paragraphing is virtually non-existent, with most sentences starting on a new line or grouped haphazardly. Referencing is also weak, making it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to group related information into proper paragraphs, use logical transitional phrases smoothly, and ensure a clear, connected structure throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer relies on basic and repetitive terms such as 'chart', 'show', 'consumption', 'nutrients', and 'sugar'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, including 'diiner' (dinner), 'represnts' (represents), 'weak the bone strenthening' (weaken bones), 'consumee' (consumed), 'hatmful' (harmful), 'increase insulin' (increase insulin levels), and 'manykind' (many kinds). These errors occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To improve lexical resource, the student should expand their range of vocabulary to include less common technical terms and precise synonyms, while paying close attention to word formation and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex forms. Frequent errors are present across verb forms, articles, prepositions, and punctuation. Examples include missing articles ('the chart below shows', 'in breakfast, lunch, diiner'), incorrect verb tenses and forms ('first chart showing', 'it need more energy', 'it increase insulin body may increase'), and run-on structures or missing punctuation. Punctuation and capitalization are frequently neglected, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher band, the writer must produce a greater variety of error-free complex sentences and maintain tighter control over basic grammatical rules, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation.
