Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the charts and providing relevant comparisons. You present an overview of the data, noting that dinner and snacks feature heavily across the different nutrients while breakfast consistently has lower percentages. You accurately cite figures from the visual data, such as the 43 percent of sodium consumed at dinner and the 42 percent of added sugar in snacks. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the conclusion briefly recaps data points rather than synthesising the broader trends effectively, which prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Your selection and reporting of key data points are nonetheless clear and relevant throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your writing displays a coherent overall arrangement, and the information is organized logically into an introduction, body paragraphs focusing on specific nutrients, and a concluding summary. You attempt to use cohesive devices to guide the reader through the data, mentioning categories such as sodium, saturated fat, and added sugar in separate sentences. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty. For example, referencing between sentences can be slightly repetitive, relying heavily on direct repetition of phrases like 'is consumed in dinner' and 'is added in breakfast' rather than smoother substitution. Paragraphing is present and separates the ideas adequately, but greater variety in transitional phrases would enhance the logical flow and progression of your writing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms related to the visual data such as 'percentages', 'typical meals', 'consumed', and 'nutrient categories'. You make valid attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is accompanied by some inaccuracy, such as 'snakcs' (spelling error) and awkward phrasing like 'Meals eaten in dinner have overall high percentage among all pie charts'. Word-choice errors and spelling slips occur, including 'snakcs' and 'highest one. while', but these do not seriously impede communication. To improve further, you should focus on precision in word choice and collocations, ensuring that nouns, verbs, and prepositional combinations match natural English usage when describing statistical information.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to structure comparisons using clauses like 'while 29% in lunch' and 'which is highest one'. There are several errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles and prepositions (e.g., 'Meals eaten in dinner' instead of 'at dinner', 'in snakcs' instead of 'for snacks', and 'sodium and saturated fat has' instead of 'have'). You also make punctuation errors, such as placing a period before 'while'. While these errors are noticeable and persist throughout the text, they rarely impede overall communication. A stronger control over basic agreement, prepositions, and complex sentence boundaries is needed to achieve a higher level of accuracy.
