Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making relevant comparisons across the three nutrients. An overview is presented, highlighting the dominance of dinner in sodium and saturated fat, and snacks in added sugar. Key data points are accurately cited, such as 43% for sodium at dinner and 42% for added sugar in snacks. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise or slightly under-develop certain comparisons, such as briefly grouping breakfast and lunch data without fully expanding on their relative proportions, placing this aspect firmly within the expectations for this band level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
There is a clear overall progression, with information logically organised into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and distinct body paragraphs dedicated to each nutrient. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as "Overall", "While", and "On the other hand". However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical or repetitive in structure (for example, beginning multiple sentences with direct data listings), preventing the response from reaching higher levels of cohesive fluency.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating terms like "percentages", "nutrients", "portion", and "trend". There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, though this is accompanied by minor lexical inaccuracies, such as writing "consumed alot" (one word instead of two), stating that breakfast "contains least number of nutrients" (where amount or proportion would be more precise), and mentioning that snacks "relied on added sugar". These errors do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and comparative structures effectively. Control over grammar and punctuation is generally sound, though some errors persist, such as missing articles ("contains least number" instead of "contains the least number") and occasional awkward prepositions or phrasing like "consumed by snacks with 42%". These errors are noticeable but rarely impede communication, reflecting a solid command of basic structures alongside developing complex ones.
