Student answer (Band 7.0)

The pie charts illustrate the consumption of three nutrients such as sodium, saturated fats and added sugar on average through diffrent meals in a day, particularly in the USA, all of which may be dangerous for health if over eaten.

Overall, the intake of sodium and saturated fat are higher in dinner as compared to other meals of the day, while added sugar discovered major consumption in snacks. In contrast, the figure for all three nutrients taken in breakfast was considerably same.

Looking at nutrient sodium, it shows the consumption during dinner was almost half of the total at 43%, whereas just under 30% consumed through lunch. On the other hand, in breakfast and snack there was symettric amount of sodium consumption at 14%. Moving to saturated fat, again dinner shows the maximum amount taken of 37%, and lunch and snacks had minor diffrence of the saturated fat with 21% and 26% respectively. While, breakfast consider the lowest amount of the same nutrient at 16%

Furthermore, the percentage of added sugar discovered highest in the snacks with 42%, follwed by 23% in dinner. There was nominal difference of the consumption of added sugar during lunch and breakfast with 16% and 19% respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt by selecting, reporting, and comparing the main features of the visual data. An overview is clearly presented, identifying key trends such as the peak of sodium and saturated fat at dinner, and added sugar in snacks. Data points are accurately cited from the charts, such as 43% for sodium at dinner and 42% for added sugar in snacks. The ideas are well extended and supported with appropriate figures, meeting the requirements of this level while showing solid capability in highlighting the most salient information without missing key categories.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information about the three nutrients is grouped logically into distinct paragraphs, starting with a clear overview and followed by detailed body paragraphs for each nutrient or group of meals. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In contrast', 'Looking at nutrient sodium', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to guide the reader through the data, although referencing and transitions occasionally feel slightly mechanical, which prevents the writing from reaching the highest band.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common items such as 'consumption', 'proportion', and descriptive phrases like 'symettric amount' and 'nominal difference'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('diffrent', 'symettric', 'diffrence', 'follwed') and minor word-choice or collocation inaccuracies ('consider the lowest amount', 'the percentage of added sugar discovered highest'). These errors do not impede communication, placing the vocabulary use firmly within this band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. Examples such as 'while added sugar discovered major consumption in snacks' and subordinate clauses like 'whereas just under 30% consumed through lunch' show an attempt at varied structures. There are some non-systematic errors and awkward passive constructions (e.g., 'added sugar discovered highest', 'the figure for all three nutrients taken in breakfast was considerably same'), but these errors rarely impede communication and do not obscure the intended meaning.
