Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the chart topic and give an overview that correctly notes dinner as the largest source of sodium and saturated fat, and snacks as the largest source of added sugar. However, the figures in the body are repeatedly assigned to the wrong meals: for example, sodium is reported as 43% for breakfast rather than dinner, and the saturated-fat figures are also mismatched. The added-sugar paragraph likewise gives 42% to breakfast instead of snacks. These inaccuracies make the comparisons unreliable, and the final conclusion incorrectly says snacks contribute most to sodium. The response also falls eight words short of the required 150. Check each value against the chart and report the main comparisons accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: an opening identifies the charts, an overview follows, and later paragraphs attempt to describe each nutrient before a conclusion. This gives the response a basic structure. However, progression is weakened by the short, list-like data paragraphs and by repeated statements about added sugars in the final body paragraph and conclusion. Linking is often mechanical or unclear, as in “Regarding, sodium” and “the pattern of added sugars,” while the sequence of meal labels is inconsistent. Use one paragraph for the overview and separate, logically ordered paragraphs for the detailed comparisons. Clear topic sentences and accurate references to each meal would help the reader follow the information.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “consumption,” “highest,” and “percentage,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning difficult to interpret. Examples include “pie chat” for “pie charts,” “stuarted fats” for “saturated fats,” “highest shared” for “largest share,” and “highest added of sugars.” “Adding sugars” is also used where “added sugar” is needed. Repetition of “highest percentage” and “pattern” further limits precision. Build a small set of accurate terms for describing shares and comparisons, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some connected sentences, including the overview beginning “overall,” and the contrast introduced by “while.” However, sentence structures are limited, and frequent errors in sentence formation, agreement, articles, and punctuation make several statements hard to follow. For instance, “there are two pie chat illustrated average percentage” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “snacks is” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. The data sections are often fragments rather than complete sentences, and commas are frequently attached without spaces or used where a full stop is needed. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check plural forms, articles, and punctuation.
