Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies several relevant figures, including dinner as the highest meal for saturated fat (37%) and snacks as the highest for added sugar (42%). However, the account contains major inaccuracies: sodium is highest at dinner (43%), not breakfast, and dinner has 29%, not 43%. It also says sodium is equal in lunch and snacks, although these are 29% and 14%. The overview merely restates that the chart shows percentages across meals, rather than summarising the main contrasts. Some figures are reported correctly, but the misreadings and limited selection of accurate key features mean the task is addressed only minimally. Focus on the overall highs and lows, then check each comparison against the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation: the response moves through sodium, saturated fat and added sugar, and uses paragraph breaks to separate the discussion from the final overview. However, progression is not consistently clear. Sequencers such as “To commence,” “Firstly,” “secondly,” “On the other hand,” and “Thirdly” are crowded together or used mechanically, and “On the other hand” does not introduce a clear contrast. The final “Overall” sentence repeats the topic instead of drawing the main comparisons together. Improve cohesion by grouping the most important patterns, using fewer and more precise linking expressions, and ensuring each paragraph develops one clear point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “percentage,” “saturated fat,” “added sugar,” and “respectively,” so the reader can recognise the subject and several comparisons. However, the range is limited and word choice or collocation is often inaccurate, as in “four type of meals,” “the biggest percentages,” and “the percentage … is fall.” Repetition of “percentage” and “include” also makes the description less precise. These noticeable errors sometimes make the intended relationship difficult to follow. Build a more reliable set of chart-description phrases, such as “accounted for,” “was highest in,” and “compared with,” and use accurate meal and nutrient labels consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to connect ideas and make comparisons, but sentence structures are limited and many sentences contain errors that can make the data relationships difficult to understand. Examples include “Sodium highest percentage in Breakfast,” which lacks a finite verb, and “the Dinner include Sodium percentage is fall,” which has faulty verb construction. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “four type of meals” and the run-on punctuation around “43 percent.While.” Most clauses follow a simple pattern, with little accurate variety. Practise forming complete subject–verb sentences and checking tense, agreement, articles and punctuation before adding more complex structures.
