Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the chart topic and attempts an overview, noting that dinner is highest for sodium and that added sugar is relatively low at lunch. However, the overview is incomplete and partly inaccurate: breakfast is not among the lowest for every category, and snacks have the highest added-sugar share at 42%. The response also gives no specific figures or meaningful comparisons across all three nutrients, so it reports only a small part of the visual information. The task requires at least 150 words, but this response is 52 words, leaving most key features unreported. To improve, include a clear overview and compare the main highs and lows with accurate percentages for each meal and nutrient.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an introductory sentence followed by an overall statement. The word “Overall” signals the purpose of the second paragraph, and “while” and “Furthermore” attempt to connect comparisons. However, the response is too brief to develop a logical progression through the chart, and the second paragraph combines several claims without clearly separating them. The connection between dinner, breakfast, snacks and lunch is difficult to follow. Build a fuller structure: introduce the charts, give a concise overview of the main patterns, then group detailed comparisons logically. Use linking expressions only where they accurately show the relationship between the data.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a few relevant terms, including “percentages,” “sodium,” “added sugar” and “meals,” so the topic is recognisable. However, the range is very limited, and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce clarity: “avarage,” “differents,” “counsuption” and “catagerios.” The phrase “most counsuption of fats” is also not an appropriate way to describe percentages in a chart, while “high in sodium” is imprecise when comparing proportions. Use accurate chart language such as “accounted for,” “proportion,” “highest share” and “lowest figure.” Check spelling carefully and use the nutrient names consistently rather than referring to all three as fats.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts simple statements and a contrast, but grammatical control is weak and the sentence patterns are very limited. For example, “the most counsuption of fats in dinner its mostly high in sodium” has an unclear subject and an incorrect verb construction; “while the breakfast and snacks the lowest percentage” is missing a main verb. The final sentence also joins claims with a comma rather than forming a clear, correctly punctuated sentence. These errors make the comparisons difficult to understand. Practise complete subject–verb sentences, accurate articles and agreement, and punctuation between clauses. For example, write “Dinner accounts for the highest proportion of sodium, while breakfast and snacks each account for 14%.”
