Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The pie charts illustrate the proportion of nutrients namely sodium, saturated fat, sugar added in various meals which are consumed in the USA.
Overall, it is noticeable that each meal is affected by different dominant cause. The most noteable is sodium and saturated fats are present in higher amount in dinner. Whereas, sugar was added almost half of total in snacks. Other meals were accounted for carrying nutrients moderately.
Regarding soidum, breakfast and snacks carried the smiliar amount of 14%. The largest segment was dinner which made up 42% of the total. However, 29% was accounted for lunch. However, saturated fats were also the second highest nutrient fount in dinner at 37%. other meals such as snacks, dinner, breafast comprised of 21%, 16%, 26%, respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main pattern that dinner has the highest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks lead for added sugar. However, the report is only partially complete: it ends with “Meanwhile,” and gives no comparison of added sugar across the other meals. Some figures are also inaccurate or unclear: dinner sodium is 43%, not 42%, and the sentence listing saturated-fat figures assigns 21%, 16% and 26% to meals in an order that conflicts with the chart; the correct values are snacks 21%, breakfast 16% and lunch 26%. The overview’s claim that other meals carry nutrients “moderately” is vague. The response is 9 words below the 150-word minimum. Include the missing comparisons and check each figure against the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and detail paragraphs, and the response generally moves from sodium to saturated fat and then sugar. However, progression is weakened by repeated or confusing links: “However” appears twice close together, and “Whereas” begins a fragment rather than a complete contrast. The saturated-fat figures are difficult to follow because several meal names and percentages are crowded into one sentence. The final paragraph stops at “Meanwhile,” leaving the report unfinished and disrupting the overall flow. Use one clear comparison per sentence, group related figures together, and complete the final paragraph so the reader can follow all three nutrients.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary such as “proportion,” “dominant,” “largest segment” and “comprised,” showing some range beyond basic description. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “different dominant cause,” “carried the smiliar amount,” and “far higher of total.” Spelling errors such as “noteable,” “soidum,” “fount” and “breafast” are noticeable and reduce precision. “Sugar was added” also sounds as though sugar was added during meal preparation, rather than reporting the chart’s category of added sugar. Choose standard data-reporting phrases such as “accounted for” or “made up,” and proofread spelling and word forms to make the comparisons clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some complex structures, including “which are consumed in the USA” and the contrast beginning “Whereas,” but control is uneven. The latter is a dependent clause presented as a sentence fragment, and “each meal is affected by different dominant cause” has problems with article use and sentence meaning. In “Other meals were accounted for carrying nutrients moderately,” the grammatical pattern is faulty, while “21%, 16%, 26%, respectively” lacks a clear structure linking each figure to its meal. The final “Meanwhile,” is also an incomplete sentence. These errors sometimes make relationships between the data difficult to understand. Practise complete comparison sentences and check articles, clause structure and punctuation.
