Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main pattern: dinner has the largest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks lead in added sugar. You also include several relevant figures, such as 43% sodium and 37% saturated fat at dinner, and compare lunch with breakfast. However, coverage is partial and some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate. For example, “the least is the lunch and breakfat in terms of the meal tjat contain sodium” conflicts with the chart: breakfast and snacks are tied lowest at 14%, while lunch is 29%. The overview could also summarise the contrasting peaks more precisely, and the report does not clearly compare all meal categories across the three nutrients. Select the key highs and lows and report them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and further comparisons. The overview gives the reader a useful starting point by contrasting dinner’s sodium and saturated-fat peaks with snacks’ added-sugar peak. However, progression becomes difficult to follow in the later sentences, where several comparisons are joined together with “while,” “meanwhile,” and “however.” The final sentence is especially confusing because it moves between lunch, dinner, breakfast, and the lowest sodium figures without a clear sequence. Some linking words are used mechanically, and punctuation around them is inconsistent. Organise the details by nutrient or by meal, and use shorter sentences with clear references to the figures being compared.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “highest,” and “consumed,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning less precise. “Total proposition” is not an appropriate description of the chart, and “the highest propotion of dinner that contain sodium on the meal” is difficult to interpret. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “follwed,” “addad,” “breakfat,” and “pecent.” Use standard data-reporting phrases such as “the proportion of sodium in dinner” and “accounted for,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would make comparisons easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, for example, “Meanwhile, in the added sugar dinner had about 23 percent … making it higher than breakfast 16% and lunch about 19%.” However, these attempts are often faulty, and sentence boundaries and punctuation are not controlled consistently. The opening sentence lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “the snacks and the breakfast had the same proportion of sodium” uses an awkward construction for describing chart data. Agreement and clause structure also cause problems in phrases such as “the highest proportion of dinner that contain sodium.” Several sentences run together, making relationships between ideas hard to follow. Practise building accurate simple comparison sentences first, then combine them with subordinate clauses and consistent punctuation.
