Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all three nutrients and report the main meal comparisons accurately: dinner is highest for sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), while snacks lead for added sugar (42%). The overview identifies these key patterns, and the body includes the remaining figures, so the response is relevant and generally clear. However, some features are less fully presented: the opening repeats the task wording rather than introducing the chart in your own terms, and the comparisons could be synthesised more clearly—for example, noting that breakfast and snacks share the lowest sodium figure. The response is 133 words, below the required 150; the 18 words copied from the prompt do not count. Develop the overview and comparisons to meet the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs covering the nutrient categories. This helps the reader follow the information, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” show an effort to connect points. However, progression is weakened by repetitive and sometimes mechanical transitions, with “Furthermore” and “Moreover” appearing repeatedly. The sodium and saturated-fat details are combined in one paragraph, while added sugar is separated, but the organisation does not consistently group or compare related patterns. Some sentences also repeat the same point, such as stating twice that snacks have the highest added-sugar share. Use fewer, more purposeful linkers and organise the figures into clearer comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “accounted for,” “proportion,” “represented,” and “stood at,” and the meaning of the figures is generally understandable. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “stood at,” “accounted,” and “recorded,” and several combinations are unnatural or imprecise. For example, “snacks was comprised the highest percentage” and “breakfast was constituted at 16%” do not express the data naturally. “In sodium” is also an awkward way to introduce a category. Choose a small range of accurate reporting verbs and collocations, such as “made up,” “represented,” or “was highest for,” and vary them without forcing synonyms. This would make the description more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and most of the data remains understandable. However, control is uneven, particularly in sentence construction and agreement. In “dinner accounted the highest proportion,” the verb pattern is incomplete; it should be “accounted for.” The sentence “dinner was recorded at 43% in and snacks and breakfast stood at 14%” contains a faulty construction, while “snacks was recorded” and “snacks was comprised” show agreement or verb-form problems. Capitalisation after full stops is also inconsistent, as in “it was the highest proportion.” Aim first for accurate, complete sentences with correct subject–verb agreement and punctuation, then add more varied structures.
