Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the three nutrients and meals, and you attempt an overview by noting dinner’s high figures and the high proportion of added sugar in snacks. However, the overview is often inaccurate or unclear: dinner is not highest for all nutrients, because snacks lead for added sugar, and breakfast is not simply low in every comparison. Some details are correct, such as breakfast and snacks both accounting for 14% of sodium, but the response does not clearly compare the figures across all three nutrients. The conclusion that the nutrients are “very healthy” contradicts the task’s warning that they may be unhealthy in excess. The response is also 17 words below the required minimum. Select the main highs and lows accurately and support them with figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an introduction, an overview-like paragraph, further detail and a conclusion, so there is an attempt to organise the report. However, the progression between ideas is difficult to follow, and several comparisons are repeated or unclear. For example, “in others dinner meals percentage are very high” does not specify which nutrients or figures are being compared, while “Regarding” and “While” do not create clear links between the points that follow. The final sentence introduces a judgement about health rather than summarising the chart. Group the information by nutrient or by the most notable meal patterns, and use clear linking phrases to show contrasts and comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “average percentage,” “sodium,” “saturated fats,” “added sugars,” and “snacks,” which helps identify the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “all types of meals high percentage in dinner” and “snacks meal percentage.” There are also spelling errors, including “snaks” and “nutriens,” and “graph chart” is redundant. Use precise terms such as “accounted for,” “proportion,” and “highest/lowest share” to describe the data, and check spelling and natural combinations of words. Avoid adding unsupported evaluative language such as “very healthy.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “whereas” and “while,” and the opening sentence communicates the topic. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors often make comparisons hard to understand. For example, “all types of meals high percentage in dinner” is missing a verb and has an unclear structure; “in breakfast meal percentage is low then others” has faulty comparison wording; and “it is show” uses an incorrect verb form. Agreement and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “lunch percentage are high.” Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences, using comparative structures such as “higher than,” and punctuating sentences so each comparison is complete.
