Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie charts illustrate the average proportion of sodium, saturated fat and added sugar consumed in the USA.
Overall, dinner accounts for largest proportion of sodium and saturated fat consumption, whares snacks contributes the largest percentage of added sugar. In contrast, breakfast contributes the smallest proportion of all the three nutrients.
Regarding sodium, dinner makes up th largest proportion share at 43% followed by lunch at 29% of sodium intake, while snacks and breakfast repesent the remaining 14% each. A similar pattern can be seen in saturated fat consumption, as dinner contributes 37% and breakfast accounts for 16% which is tha smallest percentage, while snacks repesent for 21% and lunch accounts for 26%.
In added sugar, it shows a different trend. snacks are responsible for 42%, here, it is the largest proportion of the consumption. Breakfast shows 16% which is tha smallest figure. Dinner is accounted for 23% and lunch for 19% of consumption in added sugar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response identifies the charts’ subject and gives a clear overview of the main contrasts: dinner has the highest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks lead for added sugar. It also reports the key figures accurately, including dinner’s 43% sodium and 37% saturated fat, and snacks’ 42% added sugar. The comparisons across meals are relevant and cover all three nutrients. This is a strong, well-supported account of the visual information. To make the overview more complete, explicitly highlight the broader contrast that dinner’s share falls from the highest for the first two nutrients to a relatively low 23% for sugar, while snacks show the reverse pattern. The current summary is clear, though it could draw out this relationship more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is organised into an introduction, an overview, and two detail paragraphs, with the nutrient groups presented in a sensible order. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “Regarding sodium,” and “A similar pattern” help readers follow the comparisons, and the final paragraph clearly signals the contrast in added sugar. This meets the lower-band expectation of a coherent overall arrangement and shows some of the stronger progression expected above it. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical, and the added-sugar paragraph begins abruptly with “In added sugar, it shows a different trend.” The reference in “it” is unclear, and the sentence could connect more smoothly to the preceding comparison. Use more precise transitions and avoid repeating the same sentence pattern.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounts for,” “consumption,” and “largest,” so the meaning is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “whares,” “repesent,” and “tha” recur, while “largest proportion share” is redundant and “repesent for” is an inaccurate collocation. Some phrasing is also awkward, such as “In added sugar, it shows a different trend.” These issues fit a limited but minimally adequate range: the reader can follow the data, but errors are conspicuous and sometimes interrupt fluency. Proofread spelling carefully and build a more accurate set of reporting expressions rather than relying repeatedly on “accounts for” and “shows.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the comparison clause “while snacks and breakfast represent the remaining 14% each” and the sentence beginning “as dinner contributes 37%.” Most relationships between the figures remain understandable. However, grammatical control is uneven: “dinner accounts for largest proportion” is missing an article, “breakfast contributes the smallest proportion of all the three nutrients” has an awkward determiner construction, and “Dinner is accounted for 23%” uses the wrong passive pattern. The sentence “In added sugar, it shows a different trend” also has an unclear subject. These errors, alongside a relatively narrow range of sentence forms, keep accuracy from being consistent. Practise article use and construct comparisons with clear subjects and correctly formed verbs.
