Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main pattern that dinner has the largest shares of sodium and saturated fat, and you include several accurate figures, such as dinner’s 43% sodium and 37% saturated fat. However, the overview is too broad: breakfast is not lowest for every nutrient, because snacks have the smallest sodium share and breakfast has the smallest added-sugar share. The sugar comparison is also incomplete: snacks lead at 42%, but dinner and lunch are not reported, and the chart’s key contrast between dinner-led sodium/fat and snack-led sugar is not fully developed. The response is below the required 150 words, which limits the detail and coverage. Select the main comparisons accurately and support them with the remaining relevant figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by separate comments on sodium, saturated fat and sugar. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression is limited because the comparisons are mostly presented as isolated statements, and the final sugar paragraph is especially brief. Linking phrases such as “In addition” and “In contrast” help, but “In contrast” does not clearly signal what is being contrasted, and the repeated “In case of” makes the organisation mechanical. Group the nutrients by their main pattern—for example, dinner’s leading shares versus snacks’ high sugar share—and use clear references to connect the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportions,” “accounted for,” “ranked second” and “highest proportion,” so the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “reviews on which,” “hazardious,” “coatained,” and “showedthe.” “Nutrients” is also imprecise when referring to the three chart categories; naming sodium, saturated fat and added sugar would be clearer. Repetition of “proportion” and “highest” further restricts the description. Aim for accurate chart language and check spelling and word forms carefully; alternatives such as “share,” “stood at” and “accounted for” can add variety when used appropriately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few complex sentence patterns, including “while” clauses and the overview beginning “Overall,” and most of the intended meaning can be followed. However, the range is limited, and errors in sentence construction and punctuation occur often enough to make some statements awkward. For example, “Overall,it is clear” lacks a space after the comma, while “In addition, lunch ranked second with 29%” has the same punctuation issue. The sentence “While others figures showed smaller proportions…” is a fragment, and “breakfast with16%” is not a complete comparison. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check comma spacing, articles and plural forms before finishing.
