Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report several key figures accurately, including dinner as the largest source of sodium and saturated fat (43% and 37%) and snacks as the largest source of added sugar (42%). However, the overview is incomplete: “Highest amount of” is left unfinished, and the claim that the “quarter half proportion” comes from dinner and snacks is unclear and does not accurately summarise the overall pattern. Some comparisons are useful, but the account does not clearly organise the main features across all three nutrients. To strengthen the response, give a complete overview contrasting dinner’s prominence for sodium and saturated fat with snacks’ prominence for added sugar, then support it with accurate comparisons, including lunch’s 19% of added sugar versus breakfast’s 16%.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and paragraphs comparing the nutrients. The progression from sodium and saturated fat to added sugar is also understandable. However, the overview breaks off at “Highest amount of,” which interrupts the organisation and leaves the main message unclear. Connections such as “In addition,” “Whilst,” and “On the other hand” are used, but some do not express the relationship precisely; for example, “On the other hand” introduces another nutrient rather than a clear contrast. Several ideas are crowded into long sentences, while punctuation and spacing make the sequence harder to follow. Use a complete overview and group comparisons consistently, with clear links such as “By contrast” when comparing the meal with the highest share.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “consumed,” “highest,” and “second position,” and the reader can generally identify the nutrients and meals being compared. However, the range is limited and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “quarter half proportion,” “hold the second position,” and “huge amount.” Spelling errors, including “breakfat” and “econd,” also reduce accuracy. Some word choices obscure the intended comparison, particularly in the overview. Aim for standard data-reporting collocations such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “the lowest percentage.” Check spelling carefully and choose precise terms rather than informal emphasis like “huge.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and linked sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Many clauses omit necessary verbs or articles, as in “Least amount of three types of nutrients consumed in the breakfast,” and “The highest amount of sodium and saturated fat consumed by individuals in dinner.” The opening also has an unnecessary space before the comma and lacks a complete, well-formed sentence. The overview fragment “Highest amount of” is incomplete, while sentence boundaries and comma use are often unreliable. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise complete subject–verb sentences, accurate articles and prepositions, and punctuation. For example: “Dinner accounted for the highest shares of sodium and saturated fat, at 43% and 37%, respectively.”
