Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main overall contrast accurately: sodium and saturated fat peak at dinner, while added sugar is highest in snacks. Several figures are also reported correctly, including 14% for sodium at breakfast and snacks and 42% for added sugar in snacks. However, the account is only partly developed: it gives few comparisons across all meal types, and some figures are imprecise or misrepresented. For example, dinner sodium is 43%, not “slightly close to 45 percent,” and dinner saturated fat is 37%, rather than close to 40%. The claim that “a large number of people” eat unhealthy meals is not supported by percentages showing nutrient shares by meal. Focus on accurately describing the chart data and selecting the clearest comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs beginning “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Finally.” This helps the reader follow the three nutrients, and the main contrast is placed near the beginning. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, with figures often listed without being compared or connected to a clear point. Some linking is mechanical, and the final paragraph becomes difficult to follow, particularly “it breaks the flow of dinner percentage.” References such as “both of the time” are unclear. Organise the details around meaningful comparisons—for example, dinner versus breakfast for sodium and fat, and snacks versus the other meals for sugar—and use linking phrases only when they clarify the relationship.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “average percentages,” “consumed,” “lowest,” and “mostly,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to interpret. Phrases such as “the most amount of sodium is eaten,” “people eat saturated fat,” and “it breaks the flow of dinner percentage” are not natural ways to describe proportions in a chart. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “lest,” “thir,” “higest,” and “consumtion.” Use precise reporting language such as “accounted for,” “was highest,” and “represented,” and check spelling carefully. This would make the description clearer and more appropriately academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including the overview sentence contrasting dinner with snacks. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors recur in basic sentence patterns. For example, “The charts demonstrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “in USA” needs an article, and “saturated fat and sodium are consumed most at dinner” is awkwardly formed. Some sentences are incomplete or difficult to parse, especially the final sentence beginning “In both added sugar and saturaterd fat breakfast…” Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, with spaces before commas and full stops. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete sentence structures before adding complexity; clearer sentence boundaries would make your comparisons easier to understand.
