Student answer (Band 5.0)

The pie chart illustrates the average proportions in typical meals of three kind of nutrients, all of them may cause health issues if taken them excessively.

Overall, sodium represented the highest contribution in dinner, while lowest in sanks. Added dugar constituted the largest proporton in the Snacks and smallest in the breakfast.

Sodium and Saturated fat has their largest share in dinner with 43% and 37% respectively while Added sugar has a considerable proportion of 23% in it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several important features accurately: dinner has the highest shares of sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), while snacks contain the most added sugar (42%). However, the report is incomplete and covers only a small part of the chart. The overview says sodium is lowest in snacks, but breakfast and snacks are equal at 14%; it also omits that breakfast has the lowest added-sugar figure (16%). The final sentence, “The lunch has the”, is unfinished, leaving the comparison undeveloped. The response is also 51 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited coverage. To improve, complete the report and compare the remaining meal figures accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introduction is followed by an overview and then supporting details. Linking phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” help signal the purpose of each section. However, progression is weak because the body stops abruptly at “The lunch has the”, and the comparisons are not developed into a complete account. The transition “On the other hand” does not clearly explain the contrast between dinner’s nutrient shares and the snack figure. The overview also repeats information that is then restated in the body. Use complete paragraphs, group related comparisons, and finish each point so the reader can follow the chart’s main patterns.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “average proportions”, “largest proportion”, “share” and “constituted”, and the meaning of most comparisons is recoverable. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors reduce accuracy, including “sanks”, “dugar”, “proporton” and “snaks”. Some phrasing is also awkward: “highest contribution in dinner” and “share of total” are less natural for describing pie-chart percentages. Choose precise terms consistently, such as “accounted for” or “made up”, and check spelling carefully. Avoid repeating “proportion” and “share” when a more direct verb can make the comparison clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes mostly simple sentence patterns, with a limited attempt to combine ideas using “while” and “with”. Several grammatical errors are noticeable: “three kind of nutrients” needs a plural noun, and “all of them may cause health issues if taken them excessively” has an incorrect clause structure. In “Sodium and Saturated fat has their largest share”, the plural subject requires a plural verb, and the sentence’s reference to the nutrients is not controlled consistently. The final fragment, “The lunch has the”, is incomplete and prevents the idea from being understood. Practise accurate plural agreement and complete clauses, then use a few controlled complex sentences to compare meal categories.
