Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You identify the main contrasts accurately: dinner has the largest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks lead for added sugar. The figures you give—43% and 37% for dinner, and 42% for snack-related sugar—match the chart, and you also compare lunch and breakfast. The concluding overview reinforces the key pattern. This is a clear, relevant summary with the main features selected and supported by data. To make the account more fully developed, report the sodium shares for breakfast and snacks separately: both are 14%, but the sentence describing them is difficult to interpret and appears to attach the same figure to saturated fat as well. A more precise comparison of all three nutrients across meals would strengthen the detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable progression: an introduction, a paragraph on sodium and saturated fat, a paragraph on added sugar, and a concluding overview. This makes the main comparisons easy to locate, and phrases such as “The distribution shifts dramatically” help signal a change in focus. However, the second paragraph is difficult to follow because several comparisons are compressed into one sentence, with unclear links between the figures and meal types. The final overview also repeats points already made, and “added sugar.breakfast” lacks a space after the full stop. Use shorter, clearly structured comparisons and ensure each sentence has an explicit subject and reference. The organisation is coherent overall, but cohesion is not consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-appropriate language, including “primary source,” “distribution shifts dramatically,” “dominate,” and “accounts for.” These choices help describe proportions and contrasts, and the meaning is generally recoverable. However, spelling errors such as “harmfull,” “fate,” “heighest,” “meanwhilw,” and “beakfast” reduce accuracy. Some expressions are also awkward or imprecise: “three type of nutrients” and “same amount of small share” do not sound natural, while “consumed in USA” is less idiomatic than “consumed in the USA.” Aim for accurate spelling and more conventional collocations for describing chart data. Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but these slips limit precision and fluency.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex structures, including the clause beginning “where snacks dominate at 42%” and the contrast introduced by “whereas.” The overall meaning can usually be understood, but grammatical control is uneven. For example, “three type of nutrients” needs plural agreement, and the opening sentence has an unclear structure around “including sodium… in meals.” In the second paragraph, the long sequence of comparisons lacks clear sentence boundaries and grammatical links; “Dinner is the primary source… contributing, 43% and 37%” is not correctly formed. The final sentence also runs “added sugar.breakfast” together after a full stop. Build shorter sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement, articles, and punctuation.
