Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the three nutrients and report most of the key figures accurately, including dinner as the highest meal for sodium and saturated fat, and snacks as the highest for added sugar. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: sodium is not the highest proportion overall across the charts, and saturated fat does not decline generally; it peaks at dinner. The comparison that snacks have the lowest sodium and higher saturated fat and sugar is relevant, but the main patterns need to be stated more precisely. The response also contains 146 words, below the required 150. Add a concise overview and develop the comparisons rather than repeating figures in separate descriptions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs reporting figures, so the reader can follow the general topic. However, progression is limited: the body moves from sodium to saturated fat and then added sugar without a clear grouping or comparison across meals. Linking words such as “Overall,” “while,” and “however” are used, but some connections are awkward or do not clarify the relationship between the data. For example, the overview’s statements about dinner and snacks are difficult to interpret. Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for instance, dinner and snacks as contrasting peaks—and use referencing and transitions to make each point connect naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentage,” “highest,” and “lowest,” and the meal and nutrient labels are generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “has consumed at 43%,” “on dinner time,” and “increased in the saturated fat.” Repetition of “percentage” and “proportion” also makes the report less flexible. Choose verbs that describe chart data directly, such as “accounted for,” “stood at,” or “was highest,” and use natural phrases like “at dinner” and “the share of saturated fat.” More precise vocabulary would make the comparisons easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentences and uses contrast clauses, as in “Saturated fat has the highest percentage of 37% on dinner, however…,” but control is inconsistent. Errors include subject–verb agreement in “The pie charts … shows,” incorrect verb forms in “added sugar was also fall,” and missing or incorrect articles and prepositions in phrases such as “on dinner time.” Several sentences are joined with commas where a full stop or semicolon would be clearer, particularly the saturated-fat comparison. Most intended meanings can still be understood, but these recurring errors reduce accuracy. Practise reliable past-tense reporting structures and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries when editing.
