Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The charts depict the consumption of three types of nutrients including sodium, saturated fats and added sugars in meals by people of USA.

Food containing sodium as well as saturated fats are mostly used among all in the dinner. Whereas, sugar is prefer in snacks.

The first chart illustrates the 14% of sodium is consumed in the time of snacks and same quantity are used in breakfast. While it is maximized to 29% in lunch time. It is further increased up to 43 percentage in night. In second chart, 21% of saturated fats are took by human beings in USA in snacks and it gradually declined to 16% in breakfast time. Again it is rised to 26%. But mostly used in dinner time that is 37%.

However, large ratio of population are added sugar in snacks. Then it face sudden decline in breakfast time and reach up to the 16%. Again, sugar consumption is little bit rised to 19% in lunch. It further maximized in dinner. This chart shows increasing trend in anti-clockwise direction. In short, sodium are consumed more as compare to all other nutrients in dinner. Also it is used less in snacks and breakfast among all. While sugar consumption is dropped in lunch time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main pattern accurately: dinner has the highest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks lead for added sugar. Most figures you report match the chart, including sodium at 14% for breakfast and snacks, 29% for lunch and 43% for dinner, and saturated fat peaking at 37% in dinner. However, the overview is not fully reliable: you later say sodium is used less in snacks and breakfast, although those values are equal, and you describe sugar as declining in breakfast before rising, without clearly stating that snacks are highest at 42%. The claim that the chart shows an “increasing trend in anti-clockwise direction” is unclear and not a useful summary. Select the key contrasts and present them consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details for each nutrient, so the reader can follow the broad organisation. Paragraphing also separates the chart descriptions. However, progression within the detail paragraphs is sometimes difficult to track: “Again it is rised to 26%” does not identify the meal, and the sequence for added sugar is confusing because it begins with snacks but then moves to breakfast and lunch without clearly returning to the highest figure. Linking words such as “While,” “Again,” and “However” are used repeatedly or do not always express the relationship accurately. Grouping figures by meal or using clearer comparisons would make the information flow more logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “consumption,” “saturated fats,” “declined,” and “maximized,” and the reader can generally understand the comparisons. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “food containing sodium … are mostly used,” “sugar is prefer in snacks,” and “large ratio of population are added sugar.” These phrases make the description less clear and reduce the precision expected in a chart report. “Maximized” is also not the natural choice for describing a percentage reaching its highest point; “peaked” or “was highest” would be more suitable. Aim for accurate, conventional reporting phrases rather than translating expressions directly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including contrast structures such as “Whereas, sugar is prefer in snacks” and “While sugar consumption is dropped in lunch time.” However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “sugar is prefer” should use a passive form such as “sugar is preferred,” while “saturated fats are took” has an incorrect verb form. In “sodium are consumed,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “It is further increased” has an unclear reference. Some sentences are also fragments, including “But mostly used in dinner time that is 37%.” Practise complete, controlled sentences and check verb forms and agreement.
