Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main contrasts: dinner has the largest shares of sodium and saturated fat, while snacks lead for added sugar. You also include relevant figures, such as sodium at 14% for both breakfast and snacks and added sugar at 42% for snacks. This gives the response a clear overview and addresses the chart. Some details, however, are unclear or imprecise: “the two pies … have the same percentage” could suggest the two nutrients have equal overall shares, rather than similar meal patterns, and the comparison of breakfast and lunch for added sugar is difficult to interpret. State the key comparisons directly and accurately, including that dinner is highest for both sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), while snacks are highest for added sugar.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs comparing the meal categories. This helps the reader follow the broad contrast between sodium and saturated fat on one hand and added sugar on the other. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “In contrast” also signal relationships between ideas. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear, and several sentences contain too many ideas. For example, the sentence beginning “In the both of sodium and saturated fat” moves from dinner to lunch and then breakfast and snacks without clear sentence boundaries. Use shorter, logically grouped comparisons and make references such as “the next biggest proportion” explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary suited to describing charts, including “higher share,” “proportion,” “equal,” and “biggest part.” These choices show awareness of the task’s language, but the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand, such as “percenteg,” “soduim,” “fluctuated,” and “addition to sugar.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “the biggest part made in snacks” and “just over than breakfast percentage.” Aim for accurate, conventional collocations: for example, say that a category “accounts for” a percentage or has the “largest share.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise terms for the nutrients will make your comparisons clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple statements and attempts at more complex comparisons, including clauses introduced by “although” and “on the other hand.” This shows some range, but errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms are noticeable and sometimes make relationships hard to follow. For instance, “The pie chart illustrate” has subject–verb disagreement, while “In the both of sodium and saturated fat had” is not a complete, well-formed sentence. Articles and prepositions are also problematic in phrases such as “in the lunche” and “under of quarter percentage.” Build each comparison around a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these patterns would improve readability.
