Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response identifies the topic and makes a few relevant comparisons, including that dinner has the highest sodium share and snacks have the highest added-sugar share. However, several figures are misreported: breakfast sodium is given as 23%, whereas the chart shows 14%; the 42% figure belongs to snacks’ added sugar, not breakfast sugar. The overview also says sodium is higher at breakfast, which is not supported by the chart. Most meal-by-meal information is incomplete or vague—for example, dinner’s saturated fat and sugar are described only as “less,” without clear comparisons. To improve, select the main highs and lows accurately, report key figures, and give a clear overview grounded in the data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation: the response begins by introducing the charts, then discusses meal categories, and ends with an overall statement. Basic linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “Overall” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the discussion shifts between nutrients and meals without a consistent pattern, and some links do not clarify the relationship between points. For instance, “However” introduces the lunch sentence without a clear contrast, while “Thus” does not lead to a distinct conclusion. The overview repeats details rather than summarising the main pattern. Grouping information by nutrient or by meal, and using clearer references, would make the report more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “average percentages,” “sodium,” “saturated fat,” “added sugar,” and “consumed in the USA.” This gives the reader a basic sense of the subject. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the amount of sodium noticeable,” “sugar was less used,” and “in use of breakfast.” “Nutrients sometime cause unhealthy” also does not express the intended idea naturally. Spelling and form errors, including “noticeble,” further reduce precision. Build a small set of accurate chart-reporting phrases—such as “accounted for,” “the proportion of,” and “was the largest share”—and use them consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, using connectors such as “While” and “as compared to,” but control is inconsistent. The opening, “There are three pie charts illustrate,” lacks a grammatical link between the clauses; it could be “The three pie charts illustrate…” Several sentences also have faulty structure or punctuation, as in “While,In the saturated fat its amount was 37 percentage” and “Overall, The nutrients sometime cause unhealthy if eaten too much like.” Capitalisation after commas and spacing are inconsistent, and some clauses are fragments or awkwardly joined. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Practise complete subject–verb structures and accurate sentence boundaries before adding more complex clauses.
