Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the chart’s subject and report some accurate figures, including sodium at dinner (43%), lunch (29%), and breakfast and snacks (14% each). However, the response is incomplete: it stops while beginning the saturated-fat comparison (“they have”), gives no figures for added sugar, and provides no clear overview of the main patterns across all three nutrients. The task requires a summary of the charts, so these omissions leave it only minimally addressed. The response is also 84 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the lack of coverage and development. To improve, complete the comparisons and state the key contrast: dinner is highest for sodium and saturated fat, while snacks are highest for added sugar.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening identifies the subject, followed by comments on sodium and then saturated fat. Linking expressions such as “Whereas” and “On the other hand” show an effort to connect comparisons. However, the progression is interrupted because the final sentence is unfinished, and the response does not develop into a complete, clearly structured summary. Some links are also awkward or do not clearly connect full ideas, as in “Whereas, about 29% Sodium has in their lunch.” Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the main comparisons, and connect complete clauses with straightforward transitions such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentages,” “nutrients,” “sodium,” “saturated fats,” and “added sugars,” so the topic is generally identifiable. There is also some attempt to vary phrasing with “approximately” and “around.” However, the range is limited, and several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “43% sodium people take” and “at breakfast and snacks period.” Capitalisation is inconsistent in “Sodium,” and the repeated use of “have” does not express the data clearly. Aim for accurate reporting phrases such as “accounted for,” “made up,” and “the proportion of sodium consumed at dinner.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple statements and contrastive structures, but grammatical control is inconsistent and the range remains narrow. Errors in sentence construction make several statements difficult to follow, particularly “Whereas, about 29% Sodium has in their lunch” and “at breakfast and snacks period has only 14% this nutrients.” The opening also has a faulty relative clause and punctuation: “three types of nutrients which is sodium, saturated fats, added sugars.” The final sentence is incomplete, leaving its structure unresolved. Practise forming complete subject–verb sentences, for example, “Sodium accounted for 43% of dinner intake, compared with 29% at lunch,” and check agreement, articles, and punctuation.
