Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important patterns accurately: dinner has the highest shares of sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), while breakfast and snacks are tied for the lowest sodium share at 14%. You also correctly identify snacks as the largest source of added sugar. However, the summary is only partial: it omits the lunch and dinner figures for added sugar and does not compare the meal patterns across all three nutrients in a clear overview. The claim that people in the USA have a “very unhealthy diet” and will have “a hard time” in the long run goes beyond what these charts show. Focus on describing the proportions and their contrasts, and include a concise overview grounded in the data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall shape, moving from an introduction to a description of the charts and then a concluding comment. Some information is grouped by nutrient, which helps the reader follow the main comparisons. However, the progression is not consistently clear: the second paragraph combines several figures in a long run-on sequence, and the final paragraph shifts from reporting data to an unsupported health conclusion. Linking words such as “while” and “and” are used, but the relationships between points are sometimes unclear or repetitive. Use separate, purposeful paragraphs for an overview and key details, and connect comparisons explicitly—for example, contrast dinner’s high sodium and saturated-fat shares with snacks’ high added-sugar share.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “sodium,” “saturated fats,” “added sugars,” and “consumed,” so the subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or awkward for describing chart data. Phrases such as “how much amount of that is consumed” and “taken more” are repeated instead of using accurate reporting language such as “accounts for” or “represents.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “grapghs,” “whare,” and “lest,” which reduce clarity and control. Aim for concise, precise chart vocabulary and check spelling carefully; avoid evaluative phrases such as “very unhealthy diet” when the chart only reports percentages.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts to combine ideas using clauses, but sentence structures are often faulty, and errors sometimes make the meaning harder to follow. For example, “The charts shown below shows” has subject–verb disagreement, while “The saturated fats are taken more in the dinner being 37% and least in breakfast t 16%” lacks a clear grammatical structure. Several sentences run together without appropriate punctuation, particularly the long sequence beginning “while sodium is taken more.” The opening sentence also has an unclear construction around “how much percentages.” Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use accurate comparative structures such as “Dinner accounts for the highest proportion.” Punctuate each sentence and check agreement and articles.
