Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several relevant features, including dinner’s high sodium share (43%), snacks’ high added-sugar share (42%), and the equal 16% figures for breakfast saturated fat and added sugar. However, the overview is unclear and includes a major misreading: 23% is the added-sugar figure for dinner, not the minimum across the charts; the lowest values are 14% for sodium at breakfast and snacks. The statement that lunch has the maximum proportion “in 19%” is also inaccurate, since lunch’s figures are 29%, 26%, and 19%. Some comparisons are useful, but the account does not clearly summarise the main patterns across all three nutrients. Select the highest and lowest meal for each nutrient, then compare them accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an opening, an attempted overview, and separate discussion of nutrient figures, so there is some organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview mixes categories and values, and later paragraphs shift between nutrients and meals without a consistent comparison plan. For example, “The middle proportion they are consumed” does not clearly identify what is being compared, while “The last one” makes the final paragraph’s focus vague. Linking words such as “Furthermore” and “Moreover” are present, but they do not always clarify the relationship between ideas. Organise the body by nutrient or by meal, and use clear references such as “For sodium” and “By contrast, added sugar…”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant chart vocabulary, including “proportion,” “percentages,” “maximum,” and “minimum,” and the nutrient names are generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, which sometimes makes the meaning hard to interpret. Examples include “the harmful consumed too much quantity,” “43% of dinner recorded highest proportion to eat sodium,” and “the USA people the eat meal.” Use standard reporting collocations and avoid describing the chart as people eating a percentage. For example, say that a nutrient “accounted for” a share of the meal or that a figure “was highest.” More precise vocabulary would make your comparisons clearer and more academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

There are attempts to form longer sentences and use comparison structures, but sentence control is inconsistent, and errors frequently obscure relationships between the data. The opening, “The pie chart illustrates about the three types…,” lacks a clear grammatical construction. In “Overall, 43% of dinner recorded highest proportion,” the subject and verb do not form a workable sentence, and “the least figure in these chart is 14% are two times meals” combines incompatible structures. Articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries also need attention. Build each comparison around a clear subject and verb—for example, “Dinner accounted for the highest proportion of sodium, at 43%.” Practising accurate simple sentences before adding clauses will improve clarity.
