Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The pie charts illustrate the average proportion of sodium, saturated fat and added sugars in typical meals that may be harmful if eaten in excess in the USA.
Overall, dinner is contributing to the largest proportion in the sodium, and dinner also representing the highest proportion in saturated fat. While, added sugar has cahnge pattern, where dinner is the second-largest and snacks is the leading meal of the total.
In sodium, Dinner accounting for the largest share, at 43%, whereas lunch devoted to 29%, which is less than dinner. In addition, breakfast and snakcs constitued to 14% each moderately.
Regarding saturated fat, the pie chart follows a same pattern like sodium. In that case, dinner also making uo the highest share, at 37%, more than the lunch, at 26%. However, snacks stood at 21%, far more than the amount in sodium. Breakfast records the lowest peportion at just 16%.
Meanwhile, the distribution of added sugar differs considerably from other two nutrients. Snacks represnts the largest share at 42%, almost doubled the figure from dinner. Likewise, lunch constitue to 19%, while breakfast seemed to be the least nutrient at just 16% of the total.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The response identifies the main contrasts accurately: dinner has the highest shares of sodium (43%) and saturated fat (37%), while snacks lead for added sugar (42%). It also reports several useful comparisons, including lunch at 29% sodium and breakfast at 16% saturated fat. The overview captures the broad pattern, and the body covers all three nutrients. To make the summary more complete and precise, include the remaining added-sugar comparison more clearly: dinner is 23%, compared with 19% for lunch and 16% for breakfast. The phrase “almost doubled the figure from dinner” is broadly supported, but stating the exact figures would make this comparison more firmly grounded. Overall, the key features are selected and supported with relevant data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction and overview are followed by separate paragraphs on sodium, saturated fat and added sugar. This makes the information easy to locate, and transitions such as “Regarding saturated fat” and “Meanwhile” help signal changes in focus. The comparisons within each paragraph generally progress from the largest share to smaller ones. Some linking is less smooth, however: “Overall” is followed by an awkward contrast beginning “While,” and “In that case” does not clearly explain the relationship between the two nutrient patterns. Use complete, direct overview sentences and vary transitions according to the comparison being made. These refinements would make the progression more consistently natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
There is an adequate range of vocabulary for describing chart data, including “largest share,” “distribution,” “differs considerably” and “leading meal.” These choices help communicate the main comparisons. However, some attempted alternatives are inaccurate or unnatural in context: “dinner is contributing to the largest proportion,” “lunch devoted to 29%,” and “breakfast seemed to be the least nutrient” do not express the data precisely. Spelling slips such as “cahnge,” “snakcs,” “represnts” and “peportion” also reduce accuracy. Prefer standard chart-reporting collocations such as “accounted for” or “represented,” and describe breakfast as having the lowest percentage rather than as a nutrient. Proofreading would improve control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts a mix of simple and more complex forms, including a relative clause in the introduction and comparisons using “whereas” and “while.” However, some sentence structures and verb forms are not controlled consistently. For example, “dinner is contributing to the largest proportion” is followed by “dinner also representing,” which lacks a finite verb; “In sodium, Dinner accounting” has the same problem. The sentence beginning “While, added sugar…” is also incomplete, and “breakfast and snacks constituted to 14%” has an incorrect grammatical pattern. Aim to make each sentence complete, with a clear subject and finite verb, and check agreement and clause boundaries. These issues recur, although the intended meaning is generally recoverable.
